Did you know that babies can taste during pregnancy? Yes, you heard us right: infants can start tasting flavor in amniotic fluid around the third trimester! For example, studies have shown that babies can taste carrots as early as 33 weeks. It’s wild to imagine that your baby’s preferences are shaped even before they are born!
With this in mind, try to eat a range of foods in your third trimester. These little taste testings in utero will help your baby develop a broader palate once they start solid foods. Eat a wide range of fruits and veggies in the third trimester (think about “eating the rainbow”), and spice up your meals so that you are exposing your baby to as many flavors and nutrients as possible! Check out these recipes for an easy way to incorporate more fruits and veggies in the third trimester.
